Governor Ron DeSantis reappointed three members to the Florida State University Board of Trustees.
The Florida State University Board of Trustees sets policy for the institution and serves as the institution’s legal owner and governing board. The Board of Trustees is responsible for high quality education programs within the laws of the State of Florida and Regulations of the Florida Board of Governors.
The Republican Florida Governor announced the reappointment of Maximo Alvarez, Vivian de las Cuevas-Diaz, and Jorge Gonzalez to the Florida State University Board of Trustees.
Maximo Alvarez is the President of Sunshine Gasoline Distributors, Inc. Active in his community, he is a member of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Florida Consumer Council and previously served as a member of the Florida Petroleum Marketers Association, the First Tee of Miami, the Miami Children’s Hospital Board, and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Alvarez earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Florida State University.
Vivian de las Cuevas-Diaz is a Partner and Deputy Section Leader for Holland and Knight in Miami. Active in her community, she is a member of the Coral Gables Community Foundation Board and the Miami-Dade Beacon Council and previously served as the President of the Cuban American Bar Association. Cuevas-Diaz earned her bachelor’s degree from Florida State University and her juris doctor from Tulane University.
Jorge Gonzalez is the President and Chief Executive Officer of The St. Joe Company. Active in his community, he has previously served as the President of the Florida State University Panama City Development Board, the Chairman of the Bay County Economic Development Alliance, and as a member of the Florida Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Northwest Florida Manufacturers Council, and the Panama City Beach Chamber Board of Directors. Gonzalez earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Florida State University.
The FSU Board of Trustees is the 13-member governing board for the University. Peter Collins is the Chair of the Board of Trustees. The thirteen member Board of Trustees is composed of six members appointed by the Governor, five members appointed by the Florida Board of Governors, the Chair of the Faculty Senate and the President of the Student Body.
These Florida State University Board of Trustees appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
