A Florida Congressman announced he will not seek re-election in 2026.

Republican Congressman Neal Dunn, M.D. was first elected to Congress in 2016 representing Florida’s 2nd congressional district and has been subsequently reelected four times by his constituents. His district is the largest east of the Mississippi River, which includes all or part of 16 counties in North Florida.

Rep. Dunn currently serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, the oldest standing legislative committee in the House of Representatives, where he serves as the Vice Chair of the Subcommittee on Health. Dr. Dunn serves on the Select Committee on Communist China, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, the House Democracy Partnership, and the House Task Force on Artificial Intelligence.

Florida Congressman will not seek re-electionRepublican Congressman Neal Dunn, M.D. released the following statement:

“After much prayerful consideration and discussion with my family, I have decided not to seek re-election to the United States House of Representatives. This will conclude my service after five meaningful terms representing the people of Florida’s Second Congressional District.

As a physician, an Army surgeon, and veteran from a multi-generational military family, I brought my commitment to life, liberty, and conservative values to Washington. It has been my greatest honor to fight for lower taxes, our military and veterans, the unborn, healthcare innovation, and policies that empower Americans over bureaucracy and addressing threats from Communist China, Russia and others.

The time has come to pass the torch to new conservative leaders, return home to Panama City, and spend more precious time with my family and our beloved grandchildren.

I am deeply grateful for your trust, support, and prayers over these years.

America remains the greatest nation on Earth, and with God’s blessing, our best days are ahead.

Thank you, and God bless you all.”

The Republican Party of Florida thanked Congressman Neal Dunn for his principled conservative leadership and dedicated service. Florida Republicans said that in Congress, Rep. Dunn fought for lower taxes, a strong national defense, healthcare innovation, and freedom over government bureaucracy. He was also a steadfast voice for the Panhandle, securing critical storm recovery and emergency relief funding to help communities rebuild after devastating hurricanes. The Florida GOP said his work strengthened North Florida.

“Congressman Neal Dunn has been a rock-solid conservative and a tireless champion for the Panhandle. I was proud to support him from the beginning, and I’m grateful for his five terms of service fighting for Florida families and delivering real results for North Florida. We wish him and his family all the best,” said Republican Party of Florida Chairman Evan Power.

Dr. Neal Dunn lives in Panama City, Florida, with his wife. They are the proud parents of three sons and have five grandchildren.
